The career counseling wants of different developmental populations change because it needs to adapt to the population’s needs. As in career counseling, you don’t necessarily have to focus on the current situation of the people. However, you should also teach them how to adapt to different and changing developmental people for client students to know what to do if they may be in that situation where they need to adapt and invent. You have to prepare the disciples for what they might face and equip them with knowledge or skills to effectively adjust to the situation, which is the purpose of career counseling. Using their past experiences other people’s experiences in their careers can be an excellent way to move forward in their new job. The difference between students’ transition in the job market after graduating from high school and the transition of adult career lies in what adults experience. Presently, these experiences can be their stepping stone into their new journey. As they are now aware of what are the Dos and Don’ts. Essentially, they know what to expect and what adjustments they will make when they are in that new career. Unlike fresh graduates out of high school, it’s like a child learning how to talk or walk. It is a fresh and unique experience, and they don’t know what to expect. What happens is that they tend to make a lot of mistakes and get frustrated, but they begin to adjust to their environment after a while. Even though they have character, skills are what they need to develop primary.

According to Dugger, during the K-12 years of a young student’s life, each individual is being trained to become a productive citizen, with the primary goal of their education being to become equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to perform or produce something of value to support themselves and/or others. As they leave that phase of life and enter the job market or begin their college experience, they will face a myriad of different developmental tasks and be challenged across several domains including: career management, relationship management, academic management and self-management. Studies show that 20% to 50% of beginning college students are undecided about their major, up to75% will change their major once or more during their academic career, and many will spend a large amount of time and money in search of their specific career calling. For these students, career development activities and counseling become a primary need (Dugger, 2016).
However, an adult in career transition or experiencing unemployment may undergo more financial distress and psychological burden resulting in identity crisis, grief reactions, relational distress, and mental disorders such as anxiety or depression (Dugger, 2016). Dr. Debra Osborne suggested that because people don’t just fit in a box, every aspect of a person’s life including their family, their basic needs, their self-esteem, and their need for job search strategies is affected during career transition (mbelso, n.d). For these individuals, they require a counselor who knows how unemployment is defined and counted, can assist with strategies to help with the job search process and can be in tune with their psychological needs and emotional reactions.
