How do we know someone is thinking critically? What measures or tools are available to determine effectiveness of critical thinking? What is reflection in nursing and what impact can it have on the care we provide our patients? This week we will be looking at reflection and other tools that can be utilized to help develop critical thinking skills as well as creating a tool in which the actions or cognitive habits relative to critical thinking can be measured.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this module, you will be able to:

o Summarize individual actions used during critical thinking and reflection.
o Design a tool (survey, questionnaire) to measure actions or cognitive habits relative to critical thinking.

Discussion 6

You are a nurse preceptor for a new nurse to you unit. Create a scenario from your work experience and develop three questions reflecting the CTHOM that will help you to assess how your mentee is doing. Respond to two classmates by completing their questions, evaluating the scenario, and identifying what you learned from their scenario.
